STUFF MALAYSIA: Pick Me Up! (Updated Images)

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Ola, Pillowtalkers.
It feels kinda strange saying this. but feel free to pick me up! :)

Brigette Liberty Yu for Stuff Malaysia Cover, January 2014.

How did I get on the cover, you didn't ask?

Well, I hosted Stuff's Anniversary 'Olymbid' Party at the end of 2012 together with Jeremy from RED.FM

It was an Olympic award ceremony themed night of sporty fashion shows and titles to be won by the best companies and services in the tech industry.

Me, Nigel, the editor of Stuff Malaysia and Jeremy reading out the winners.

Johnnie Walker was a sponsor so needless to say, it was pretty fun for everyone.

Thus, I was asked if I wanted a write up as an emcee in an issue.
Already working full time out of the industry, I though it wouldn't be a highlight for me to self promote my side work. So cheekily, I asked for the cover instead.

And a year later, I was lucky enough to get it :)

Thanks STUFF MALAYSIA for allowing me to grace your covers, especially since there rarely are clients asking for Asian models. 'Retired' Asian model turn emcee then super car marketeer, at that .

*touched*

So please support if you'd like to check it out :)
As a sneak peak of the STUFF MALAYSIA Readers Choice Awards, the best phone of the year goes to...

..ah, I see. Haha.
*glaces at Iphone 5*

#traitor

I am currently chillin' at most news stands in Malaysia.
See you soon? :)

4/52 WEEKS: A PICTURE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS ONCE A WEEK, EVERY WEEK IN 2014

Monday, January 27, 2014

FAVOURITE:
Frock
Food
Friend
Fascination
Find

Favourite Frock - My new 'Creme De La Creme' floral lace motif jumper!

The tropics is both warm and wet and what can I say, non meat eaters get cold easily. Occasionally, I whip out my Native wellies if I have errands I must walk to after the pour.

Favourite Food: Adored the 'Strawberry, Pamelo & Rocket Salad with Ricotta Cheese' off Acme's Winter Menu. Too good.

Favourite Friend: Here's me & Evie after the tanked FHM party at The Roof, sharing supper. She is my only party kaki who doesn't drink and here is what our conversations are like at the bar.

Brie  - Babe, so do you want ice water, warm water, Evian, Aqua Panna or Pelligrino?
Evie  - *laughs* Can I have coke so it's not so obvious?

Legit.

Favourite Fascination - Counting cars to sleep as sheep are scarce this side of town.
Also, pretending street lights are stars; I really miss those.

Favourite Find - I've been using this a while and it is a game changer for on-the-go girls who want done-up digits; Sally Hansen Insta-Dri retails below RM50 at most pharmacies in Kuala Lumpur. Can't recommend it enough as I never did my nails till I found this! :)

HOPE YOUR AS EXCITED FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR/MORE HOLIDAYS.

FAVOURITE:
Frock
Food
Friend
Fascination
Find

Favourite Frock: Ksubi metal aviators (Hilarious brand philosophy)

Sunnies totally count as a 'face' frock, ok. But mostly because I take photos of everything except myself thus had no outfit shots all week and this will have to do :)

Favourite Food: Large leafy organic lettuce goes with everything.
Yes, that whole salad is for me *stabs with fork* #rawveganmeal

Favourite Friend: We've been together for 7 years. Suddenly hit me this week and cuddles are at every corner.

Favourite Fascination: Found out that coffee beans aren't actually beans but the pit of a berry. Whaaaaaa.....that and it is also one of the most chemically treated crops so maybe it is time to switch to organic coffee (I'm liking Mount Hagen Organic Coffee fr Village Grocers!)
But stop thinking of pesticide related cancers and cheer up with fun facts about coffee here

Favourite Find: How easy it is to glitter tip your nails using just the brush. Try it!
Base Swatch - OPI 'Hearts and Tarts'
Tip Swatch- China Glaze 'Champagne Kisses'

Yes, finally a post without Iphone pictures. 3 weeks down and I'm better already. Super 'syiok sendiri'

FAVOURITE:

Favourite Frock: Was an eventful week and this plush pink pencil dress I wore to the "Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards" fushia themed gala dinner takes the cake.

Favourite Food: Watermelon is a food, right? So even if I blended it because I'm too lazy to chew in the morning, why should it not fall under my favourite  of the week :)

Favourite Friend: Bumped into Aye Vie after too many years while she was supplying the wines and champagnes for a wedding I was at.

Glad to see you looking much better babe!

Favourite Fascination: I'm fascinated how many people I know in KL who don't know what a SMORE is e.g. Dimps.

Basically, you burn a marshmallow over a stove then place it between 2 Graham crackers with a piece of flat chocolate inside and BAM - diabetic delight!

Favourite Find: A way to reuse old magazines pages for scrap booking.

PLENTY is my motivational safe word by the way. Part of my glass half full mentality, and half a glass is plenty, oui? :)

Mad busy at work but I will see you next week, loves!

FAVOURITE:

Favourite Frock: What I wear on weekends when I'm out of yucky work wear. Kaftan from Square Room, BSC.

Favourite Food: Gordon Ramsey waffle maker, makes my Sundays *NAMS*

Favourite Friend: Well, look who we have here. Buddums, David Yeow. You know we've been friends long when our pictures start to look like this.

Favourite Fascination: Pink emeralds make too beautiful birthday gifts. So fascinating in fact, I have a second cheat shot #macroobsessed

 I'm mesmerized from every facet. (Thank's bub-chee!)

Favourite Find: I've found time and time again that red undertones makes me look tanner. Got the red stripped out of my hair at The Met, Ampang,  leaving a pretty gradient of sombre (subtle ombre) undertones for 2014's most wearable hair trend.

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.
IT'S A DATE! :)

Of Birthdays Reflections, Braids and Bouquets.

Tuesday, January 07, 2014

Oh hello, darlings :)
It's 2014 and I'm back for a new year and ready to share this whole new place I'm in. If you don't recognize me or my writing any more, that's fine. Neither can I sometimes, but all the better.

Birthday shoot on 27th December 2013, Grand Hyatt KL

I did a lot of growing up in my absence, or more like growing into myself. Glad to say I am becoming the person I didn't think I'd live to meet and for that I count my luck-struck stars.

Work wise over the last 2 years, I've found footing in the Malaysian super car industry I chanced upon. Some say finding ones passion and doing things you love is how you won't work a day in your life. But I found doing something you aren't naturally passionate about constructively challenging and flexes ones ability to adapt fast, while broadening a scope of interest into the otherwise ignored. And truthfully it doesn't feel like 'work.' I just feel like I'm just learning everyday, balancing what I am already good at with something new I can work towards. And maybe, that is it's own kind of underrated passion.

I still do emcee in my own time, and now I'm not depending on it to pay next months organic vegetable bills (Thought I'd say shoes, didn't you!), I find I'm starting to love it again. Same with modelling, even if its only for my photographer friends lenses or the occasional print ad; It's where I am cosy and it's nostalgic as that was how I spent the last of my teens and it bought me my independence since 18. Though I wasn't quite sure what to do with that much freedom then, I only look back in fondness. I had more than my share of proverbial cake and washed it down with every experience, so now I'm just happy I get to re-live it at 25.

Will try not to drown you with words. We're just stepping back into this kiddy pool  together, after all. I will be posting more, maybe, sharing the little things I like looking and thinking back upon. Like the early days of blogging where people played with words because pictures couldn't load on TM dial up. So if you don't fancy that, it's a good time to say goodbye.
It's a new year and with every wilted bouquet, blooms a new day.
 Adieu 2013 and Hello 2014!
